Dear Judoka:
"TRAINING WITHOUT HAVING THE SECRETS OF TACTICAL JUDO IS LIKE INTENTIONALLY BREAKING YOUR LEGS AND THEN SEEING IF YOU CAN RUN A MARATHON."
Why would you intentionally handicap yourself? Don't do it!
Important-Important-Important
After competing in the Olympics this year I was interviewed by a Japanese television network. I was chosen for this interview mostly because I had won the first match in the Olympics versus a 60kg Japanese judoka in 16 years by knocking out one of their greatest medal hopefuls, and a rising star Hiroaki Hiroaka. The theme of the interview was the state of modern judo, and how Japan could change their approach to be more successful after a disappointing medal count in this Olympics.
My answer was simple. I explained how I had prepared for the Games with Rhadi, with a great emphasis on scouting, sound ground technique, strategy and tactics. The days of Japanese Ippon Judo are over, and Japan is one of the last countries to catch on. These sentiments have been echoed by great judoka such as Tamerlan Tmenov of Russia and Satoshi Ishii of Japan.
Without seeking out the tools to prepare a strategy, and specific tactics for each match accordingly, you are purposely putting yourself at a disadvantage. Don't be left in the dust. Take your judo to the next level now. Learn the tricks of the trade that only the pros know.
